Introduction to how to do probability in math:
Historically, the theory of probability began to develop with the study of games of chance such as roulette and cards. Apart from games, uncertainty also prevails in other walks of life such as business, math, economy, and even in day-to-day activities. Probability is a method which numerically calculate the degree of uncertainty and, therefore, of certainty of the occurrence of an event. In this article we shall discuss how to do probability in math with example problem. I like to share this Calculate Probability with you all through my article.


How to do probability in math example problem


To find the probability the following formula used

Probability P (E)= Number of occurrence of  the event
The total number of an event

To find the probability the occurrence of an event in ratio the probability formula,

P (E) = m / (m + n)

Problem:

At a cinema theater there are 100 people, 60 of people are gents, 30 are ladies and the remainders are children. If people are equally likely to leave, find the probability of:

a) Ladies leaving first.

b) Children leaving first.

Solution:

a) Let S be the sample space and A be the event of a ladies leaving first.

n(S) = 100

n(A) = 30

Probability of a ladies leaving first: P (A) = `30/100 ` = `3/100`

b) Let E be the event of a children leaving first.

n(E) = 100 – 60 – 30 = 10

Probability of a children leaving first:

P (E) = `10/100` = `1/100`

Example:

Find the probability of the occurrence of a event occur is` 4/20` ;

Find (i) odds in favor of its occurrence, and (ii) the odds against its occurrence.

Solution:

Let there be m outcomes favorable to E

Let n outcomes unfavorable to E. then

P (E) = m / (m + n)

= m / m + n

=` 6 / 20`

(i)      The odds in favor of E=  `m / n`    = `4 / 16` = `1/4`

(ii)    The odd against E=` n / m `          =  `16 / 4` = 4

How to do probability in math practice problem


Problem:

A six sided unbiased dice is thrown, find how many probability of getting a number two in the dice

Answer:

1/6

Problem:

Find the probability of the occurrence of a event occur is 6/12;

Find (i) odds in favor of its occurrence, and (ii) the odds against its occurrence.

Answer:

(i)      The odds in favor of E=  m / n   = 6 / 6 = 1

(ii)    The odd against E= n / m          =  6 / 6 = 1
