Distributive Property in Math

Introduction for distributive property in math:

An operation is distributive if the result of applying it to a sum of terms equals the sum of the results of applying it to the terms individually.
a ( b + c ) = ( a x b ) + ( a x c ).
Here, ‘a’ is multiplied with the sum of two terms ‘b and c’ in the left hand side which, gives the same answer when ‘a’ is multiplied individually with ‘b’ and ‘c’ and then added. Solving equations using the distributive property is very easy. Here we are going to see  distributive property in math.

Distributive Property in Math:

The types of distributive property rules used in solving equations are

a (b + c) = (a x b) + (a x c).

a (b - c) = (a x b) - (a x c).

Example Problems for Distributive Property in Math:

Example 1 for distributive property in math

Prove that 7 (5 + 9) = (7 x 5) + (7 x 9).

Left hand side:

First take 7 (5 + 9)

By adding 5 + 9 we get 14

And now it is 7 (14)

So the answer for the Left hand side is 98

Right hand side:

Now we take (7 x 5) + (7 x 9).

By multiplying 7 with 5 and 7 with 9 we get (35) + (63)

And now we add 35 with 63

So the answer for Right hand side is 98

Hence proved Left hand side is equal to right hand side.Is this topic how many vertices does a cone have hard for you? Watch out for my coming posts.

Example 2 on examples of distributive property in math

Prove that 3(6 – 1) = (3 x 6) - (3 x 1).

Left hand side:

First take the 3(6 – 1)

By subtracting 6 – 1 we get  5

And now it is 3 (5)

So the answer for the Left hand side is  15

Right hand side:

Now we take (3 x 6) - (3 x 1)

By multiplying 3 with 6 and 3 with 1 we get (18) - (3)

And now we subtract 18 with 3

So, the answer for Right hand side is 15

Therefore, Left hand side is equal to right hand side.

Hence proved

Example 3 on examples of distributive property in math

Prove that 1(4 – 2) = (1 x 4) - (1 x 2).

Left hand side:

First take the 1(4 – 2)

By subtracting 4 – 2 we get 2

And now it is 1 (2)

So the answer for the Left hand side is 2

Right hand side:

Now we take (1 x 4) - (1 x 2)

By multiplying 1 with 4 and 1 with 2 we get (4) - (2)

And now we subtract 4 with 2

So, the answer for Right hand side is 2

Therefore, Left hand side is equal to right hand side.

Hence proved
