In this section we will study about long algebraic equation. Long algebraic equation includes the simple algebraic equations, algebraic identifiers, algebraic variables, and so on. Example Problems for Long Algebraic Equation:

Example problem 1: Felix earned e extra credit points. Carissa earned 24 fewer extra credit points than Felix. Write the expression that shows how many extra credit points Carissa earned.

Solution:

The correct expression will subtract 24 from e to show how many extra credit points Carissa earned.

The expression for extra credit points Carissa earned is: e – 24

Answer: The expression for extra credit points Carissa earned is: e – 24

Example problem 2: This equation shows how the total distance Avery has walked depends on the number of trips he has made to school.

d = 4t

The variable t represents the number of trips he has made, and the variable d represents the total distance walked in kilometers. After 2 trips to school, how many kilometers will Avery have walked in total?

Solution:

Avery has made 2 trips to school. Sub in t = 2.

d = 4t 

d = 4 × 2

d = 8  

After 2 trips to school, Avery will have walked 8 kilometers.

Answer: After 2 trips to school, Avery will have walked 8 kilometers.

Exercise problem 1: Charlotte had 37 pennies. Then she found p more pennies in a drawer. Write the expression that shows how many pennies Charlotte has now.
