Example problems for grade 10 math notes:
Example 1:
If office managers fixed in the pay scale 3200 – 85 – 4900, when will he reach his maximum?
Solution:
Pay scale: 3200 – 85 – 4900
Starting salary = $ 3200= a, Annual increment = $85 = d,
Maximum salary = $4900 = tn
tn = a + (n – 1)d = 4900 = 3200+(n-1) 85
n – 1 = 1700/85 = 20
n =20+1 = 21
The manager will reach his maximum in his 21st year of service.
Example 2:
Find the sum of the first 11 terms of the A.P 3, 8, 13…
Solution:
Given A.P = 3, 8, 13…..
Hear a = 3, d = 8 – 3 = 5, n = 11, sn = `n/2` {2a + (n-1) d}
=` 11/2` {(2*3) + (11 – 1)5}
= `11/2` {6+50}
= `11/2` * 56
= 308
The sum of the first 11 terms of the given A.P is 308.
I have recently faced lot of problem while learning Negative Angle Identities, But thank to online resources of math which helped me to learn myself easily on net.
Example 3:
Find the intercepts through by the straight line 3x – 2y – 6 = 0 on the axes of coordinates
Solution:
Straight line equation is 3x – 2y = 6
Dividing 6 on the equation (to get 1 in the RHS) `(3x)/6` – `(2y)/6` = 1
The equation can be rewritten as `x/2` +`y/-3` = 1 and comparing with the equation `x/a` +`y/b` =1
We get x intercept =2. Y-intercept = -3
Example 4:
Find the common different and the next three terms of the A.P. 1, 4, 7,…
Solution:
The common difference = 4 – 1 = 3
The next three terms are 7+3 = 10, 10+3 = 13, 13+3 =16
Example 5:
Solve 7x+8= 4x+5
Solution:
Given expression 7x+8 = 4x+5
Subtract 18 on both sides of the equation
7x +18 -18 = 4x+5 -18
7x = 4x – 13
Subtract 4x on both sides of the equation
7x – 4x = 4x – 4x -13
3x = -13
Divide 3 on both sides of the equation
`(3x)/3` = `13/-3`
x = `-13/3`
Solution is x = `-13/3`
