A gallon is a defined as a liquid measure of volume. Approximately the measure of gallon is about four litres in United States whereas in United Kingdom it is about 5 litres.

Gallon measure conversion is as follows.
One gallon is equal to 3785.412 cubic centimetres.
One gallon is equal to 0.1337 cubic feet.
One gallon is equal to 231cubic inches.
One gallon is equal to 0.003785 cubic metres.
One gallon is equal to 0.004951 cubic yards.
One gallon is equal to 3.785 litres.
One gallon is equal to 8.3433 pounds of water.
One gallon is equal to 8 pints.
As it is a measure of liquid it can be contained in any shape and gallon is not a material to have a finite shape.

Math Problems for a Gallons in a Shape:
The following formula can be used to find the measure of gallon in a shape,
Rectangular shape:
(Deep End + Shallow End) / 2 = Average Depth
Average Depth x Length x Width x 7.48 = Volume measured in Gallons
Circular shape:
Depth x Diameter-squared x 5.9 = Volume measured in Gallons
Irregular shape:
(Deep End + Shallow End) / 2 = Average Depth
(Width of A + Width of B + Width of C + ...) / (number of measurements) = Average Width
Average Depth x Length x Average Width x 7.48 = Volume in Gallons.
Example problems for gallons in a shape:
Find that how much gallons of water are there in a circular pool that is about 9 feet which is round by 2 feet deep?
Solution:
This can be considered in two cases, the two cases are as follows,
Case 1:
If we take 9 feet in circumference which is around the outside measurement. The solution will be as follows
Circumference = pi x D, where pi is approximately equal to 3.14 and D indicates diameter of the circular pool.
Hence 9 = pi x D = circumference,
Diameter of the circular shape pool = 9/pi = 9/3.14 = 2.866 feet
Radius of the circular shape pool, r=D/2 = 2.866/2 = 1.433 feet.
Area of the circular shape pool is given by, Area = pi x r^2
= pi x 1.433^2
= pi x 2.0538 sq. feet
= 6.45 sq. feet.
Volume of the circular shape pool = 6.45 x 2= 12.9 cu. ft. x 7.48 = 96.492 gallons
Case 2:
If you take 9 feet cross ways i.e.) diameter
Area = pi x r2
= pi x 4.52
= 63.585 sq. feet
Volume of the circular shape pool = 63.585 x 2 = 127.17 cu. ft. x 7.48 = 951.231 gallons
